Meet our instructors
.
Since the very beginning in 1978 all Swedercise instructors are trained and certified by Friskis&Svettis Riks. This has been an essential condition for maintaining high quality and for communicating the values that Friskis&Svettis represent.
The instructors are recruited by the local Friskis&Svettis organisation through a series of tests and interviews and then sent for training in Sweden. The instructor individually prepares his/her programme based on music and movement. While each programme follows the same methodology it remains unique and this personal stamp by each instructor is an important part of the Friskis&Svettis training concept.
Each instructor’s
physical and leadership performance is evaluated annually by specially
educated programme monitors. The Quality assessor has been specially
trained by Friskis&Svettis and has years of experience as an instructor
with Friskis&Svettis.
Amanda
Amanda grew up in Norrtalje, north of Stockholm, and joined Friskis&Svettis when she moved to London in 2007. She became an instructor in September 2010.
“I love Friskis&Svettis because it gives me that extra energy I need! I love the hour of fun and I like the combination of a really good and varied workout followed by a proper stretch. For my class I choose music which makes people want to jump. For me, it’s all about energy and happiness!”
Amanda studies fashion design
at University of Westminster. When she is not making patterns or sewing,
she enjoys a good dinner out with friends.
Gabriel
Gabriel got involved in Friskis&Svettis as a teenager in Stockholm, Sweden, and has over 20 years experience as an instructor. He co-founded Friskis&Svettis London with Martina in 2005.
“I enjoy Friskis because it is an easy and joyful way exercise both for body and soul. At my classes, I hope to deliver the core of Friskis&Svettis: pleasure of movement and the joy you feel when music and movements really fit together, all delivered with a smile ;o)!”
In his busy day job, Gabriel
works for the Swedish tourist board in London, making sure British tourists
and corporate groups choose Sweden for their destination.
Johan
Johan is Swedish and got involved in Friskis&Svettis Paris after he stopped playing handball. He later became a Swedercise instructor with Friskis&Svettis Stockholm, Sweden and joined Friskis&Svettis London when moving to London in 2005.
“I love the positive energy rush of a Swedercise class: great exercise, great music, great fun and very inclusive so people can come and let their hair down. I want my classes to be tough, energetic and motivating with a clin d’oeil and a big smile. I try to select music with a clear beat, be it chart toppers, world music, rock classics or dance music.”
Outside of Friskis,
Johan lives and works in the City. He likes to explore the London restaurant
and bar scene and is still nurturing a dream of being able to play the
saxophone one day.
Jenny
Born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, Jenny has been exercising with Friskis&Svettis since she was 16 years old. After having moved to London in 2008 she pursued her dream of becoming a Friskis&Svettis instructor.
"I used to be scared of physical activity, but now I live and breathe it, all thanks to Friskis&Svettis. Exercising with people who are just glad you are there and moving to music, finding that instructor whose music make you train just that little bit harder – to me, that is the Friskis&Svettis experience. It cannot be found anywhere else."
Jenny is a fulltime student
of molecular biology and English literature but is about to head out
onto the job market. She lives in North London with her boyfriend and
dreams of being a dog owner. In her spare time she loves to read, working
out, travel and relax in front of the telly.
Léa
Léa
comes from the Alps region in France. When she moved to London in 2010
and discovered Friskis&Svettis through a friend of hers, she immediately
got hooked! She trained to become a Friskis&Svettis instructor together
with Lucie and held her first class in August 2011.
"I love the hour of high-quality workout that Friskis provides. It's always fun and easy to follow so you can really make the most of the workout. I also like the idea of exercising in a circle shape as it helps creating group dynamic and extra energy on the gym floor. For my classes, I like to pick varied and inspiring music that makes people want to go a bit further."
Léa works in political risk management. She loves travelling and always looks forward to discovering new places around the world.
Lucie
Lucie was introduced to Friskis&Svettis by a friend when she moved over from France to London in April 2010, and she immediately loved it. She became an instructor in July 2011.
“I’ve loved Friskis&Svettis since the minute I took my first class. It makes me feel so energised and I love the feeling I get out of the work out, both in my body and my mind. For me, Friskis&Svettis is all about fun (yet demanding) exercise and I love to share the moment with my friends. I’ve encouraged a lot of them to try it out now, and I hope my class will make people want to take part and bring their friends along as well”.
Lucie graduated
from Essec Business School in Paris with a major in marketing in 2010.
She now works as an Assistant Brand Manager at P&G, in charge of
Max Factor cosmetics and Aussie shampoo.
Martina
Martina comes from a true Friskis&Svettis family. Attending her mother’s Swedercise classes in Danderyd, Sweden, from the age of 11, she then trained to become an instructor at the age of 16.
“What I like about Friskis&Svettis is exercising together in a group full of energy, whilst listening to good music. This inspires you to push yourself harder but most of all have a good time and feel extremely satisfied afterwards. My role as the instructor is to gather the energy from people in the group and reflect it back. I try to use happy and playful music that people recognise, old school floor fillers mixed with clubbing music.”
Martina is currently a student
at Imperial College, doing a PhD in heart research.
